How Air Purifiers Can Prevent Headaches

Even the strongest of headaches can be caused by simple things like a dirty rug, chipboard furniture, and bad indoor air

Low Quality Air Environment

Most people start ventilating their home whenever they feel the air got stuffy and close to impossible to breathe, while it should have been done way before. In fact, if your home has clean air at all times, you are statistically less likely to acquire respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic allergic bronchitis and sleep apnea. Chances are you are also getting rid of all of the annoying headaches in the mid-day.

Let’s be frank, when you’ve got a headache, completing even the most exciting task becomes unbearably impossible. The aches impact your productivity and sometimes even self-esteem, since you’re not able to complete anything you’ve started.

Is Urban Air a Problem?

The ecological situation in the world is far fr om ideal. At the same time, very few people are aware that the air in their apartments and offices also poses a great danger. The air goes stale in closed spaces, which increases the concentration of harmful substances and multiplies dangerous bacteria and microorganisms in it. A large group of doctors, environmentalists and designers were surveyed on the following topic: what measures will help to improve the ecology of the house and help avoid many diseases.

The reasons for a headache are many:

  • dehydration

  • lack of sleep

  • toxic gas poisoning

  • poor indoor air circulation

  • continuous fatigue

  • poor nutritional habits

  • high levels of carbon dioxide in the air you breathe

  • nervous breakdowns.

To normalize the level of carbon dioxide, it is necessary to ventilate the room regularly. But open windows do not guarantee getting rid of migraines: noise, harmful gases and unpleasant odors can penetrate from the street, which will only aggravate the pain.

If you are a busy urban citizen, who has faced the air problem upfront, there are good news for you: there is a solution. Air purifiers are a great way to improve the air you breathe 90% of the time.

An everyday air purifier with a function of humidification actually “washes” the air, driving it through a water curtain. Moreover, under the influence of water, dust and other small pollutants in the air settle down onto the washing discs.

Contemporary air purifier manufacturers create and modify air-cleaning devices in large numbers, adding the necessary functions, such as ultrasound, ionization, humidification, and so on.

What do Filters Clear Out?

Basically, there are the following types of filters:

  1. Coarse air filter. It is usually a mesh or porous material that can trap large pollutants, such as dust lumps or animal hair.

  2. Fine filters. Usually, they look like fabric or paper material folded with an accordion. The filter material has many pores, folds are laid on top of each other due to an unusual bend, forming a fine-mesh non-linear sieve. Such filters trap dust particles and most allergens. This is especially relevant during an especially harsh allergy season that happens in the Midwestern USA.

  3. HEPA filters. To date, such filters are the most effective for air purification. They trap even the smallest and most dangerous particles of pollutants, such as PM2.5, tiny allergens such as dust mite discharge and so on. Given all this, HEPA filter for air in the apartment is necessary. The entire indoor air cleaning system would be incomplete without it.

A filter with adsorption and catalytic purification is a good fit if in addition to dust, allergens, and harmful particles. If you want to protect yourself from unpleasant odors, then the air purification system in the apartment must necessarily include a filter like that.

There is special material inside the filter, that literally “draws” gas molecules into itself and reliably locks them inside. Some manufacturers make variations of the filter. For example: standard and amplified, if the sources of unpleasant odor are very strong or are too close to the room. The same functions are performed by carbon and photocatalytic filters.

The best room air purifiers will be fortified with a set of different filters. This way they’ll be able to clean the air from common household contaminants like dust, odrs, superfine particles, etc.

Where does the headache originate from?

As we said before, headaches can be the result of many onset health issues. But if we set aside the possibility of some sort of body malfunction and only take the surrounding factors in the view, we can come up with major reasons for a headache:

  1. personal predisposition

  2. suffocation (lack of oxygen in the air you breathe)

  3. CO2 exhaustion

  4. severe respiratory allergy

  5. volatile organic or non-organic compounds.

Frontal sinuses that surround the eyes, paranasal sinuses as well as mucous membranes inside your nose and throat get irritated. This way the uncomplicated allergic reaction that usually is taken care of using antihistamines, turns into a chain reaction wh ere headaches, sometimes severe ones come in. This way by removing the original reason from your environment and getting the air you breathe completely clean - you will get rid of the headaches too.

So what can you do at your home or your workplace to change the air quality?

We spend 8 to 10, sometimes up to 14 hours a day at our working place. If for some reason you are not a lifeguard at a sea beach, or a waiter, working at an island restaurant, then It means that 9 hours a day at the average you breathe low quality air with medium to high concentrations of:

  • Sulfur dioxide (SO2)

  • Ozone (O3)

  • Nitrogen dioxide (NO2)

  • Carbon monoxide (CO)

  • Particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5 particles).

Air that comes in from the windows may as well be polluted. It does have a stronger O2 saturation, we should give it that. But all in all, it is not much better than the air in your office or home for that matter.

Getting back to the question on the scope for action. Installing a high quality air cleaning and air conditioning solutions in your home or office (or both) should do you a great favor.
