Spend or Save: What Really Does Kill Viruses?

To reduce the risk of the spread of coronavirus disease, doctors advise you to wear face masks, wash your hands thoroughly with soap, and carry an antibacterial hand sanitizer with you at all times. How are these highly-advised everyday items impacting the virus and what is really worth your investment? Let’s find out!

Virus Protection

Protecting fr om virus impact seems rather basic these days. But quite honestly shielding from viruses also applies to annual influenza infections. The virus is very small and nothing will save you from it, fortunately it does not roam by itself, but travels on top of dust particles and particles of moisture. They can be filtered by disposable respirators marked FFP3 and replaceable filters for reusable masks marked P3. Be sure to watch the fit of the mask to the face.

Coronavirus Is able to penetrate the body through the mucous membranes: of the eye, nose, mouth and throat. Therefore glasses can add up to the protection of your face mask. Most of them can be worn on top of prescription glasses. You can use a full face mask instead of a respirator and glasses.

Disinfectants are not soap, but are as effective at killing viruses. So when you’re out and about, the following items are good to have with you:

  • hand sanitizer gel

  • means for surface and object cleaning (wet wipes, cleansing disposable towels)

  • disposable nitrile or latex gloves.

Other items that may aid you along the way in this coronavirus battle are as follows:

  • UV lamps

  • Liquid soap

  • Disinfecting cream, etc.

Virologists say that it is very important not only to use antibacterial agents, but also to wash hands with soap in hot water several times a day, and washing should not be limited only to the area of the hands, it is necessary to treat your hands with soap too reaching the elbow joint. The exposure to soap should not last any less than 30 seconds every time.

There is a lot of controversy on what is enough and what is not in means of hand sanitization. Some claim you can treat the palms with antiseptics for 30 seconds at least and you can skip washing your hands altogether, but most doctors assure us that competent washing with hygienic products is better than any covering disinfecting treatment.

For this reason, doctors recommend washing your hands first and then applying the antibacterial gel if you so preferl.

There are, of course, emergency situations. In such cases you can use wet wipes that contain alcohol, or even carry a small container containing rubbing alcohol with you to disinfect the surface of your hands from time to time. Some people choose to set their timer on a smartphone to help them watch the time they’ve applied their sanitizer last.

The Basics: What Prevents Virus Contamination?

Now, let’s look closer at what we have at our disposal to protect us from getting the COVID 19 virus.

1. Masks

What masks can help do is reduce the risk of contracting the virus through a burst, a splash of sneezing or coughing, and provide some protection against hand-to-mouth transmission. Although most people wear a mask, they still stick their hand under it to rub their face or scratch their nose. Practically everyone forgets that the mask must be changed as often as every three hours, otherwise it becomes a source of infection. The WHO (The World Health Organization) is sharing the same recommendations. A great idea on its own is to carry an extra reusable mask in your pocket in order to give it away to someone who is sneezing or coughing,

2. Sanitizer

Washing your hands as often as possible is an essential WHO recommendation. This should be done in order to reduce the risk of contracting a virus. If there is no access to water and soap, hand sanitizers should be used.

Similar products appeared in the 1960s and are of two types: alcohol-based or chlorine-based. According to experts, alcohol antiseptics are more effective in protecting against bacteria and viruses. Such products in their composition must contain: ethanol, isopropyl alcohol or n-propanol. And alcohol-free antiseptics are based on quaternary ammonium compounds. In general, they can reduce the number of germs, but their effectiveness will still be lower.

3. UV-light

UV rays effectively and quickly destroy the coronavirus. Study has shown that direct sunlight, even in small doses, can "deactivate" SARS-CoV-2. In June 2020, American researchers from the National Laboratory for Infectious Diseases at Boston University said the coronavirus could be killed in 25 seconds using far-ultraviolet technology.

It is actually a method that has not been in use for a while now and got no shoutout lately. Ultraviolet light is used indoors: schools, hospital facilities, public transport). Ultraviolet light is already used as a disinfectant throughout the world. It actually used to be rather popular back in the day. The energetic photons of ultraviolet light break down chemical bonds in DNA and kill / inactivate both viruses and bacteria. This diagram shows the variety and kinds of UV light.

Ultraviolet light exists in the 200 to 400 nm range on Earth. Light above 400 nm is blue visible light. Light below 200 nm is called vacuum ultraviolet radiation because it is strongly absorbed by oxygen in normal air and therefore cannot exist except in vacuum environment.There are the following UV light types: UVA, UVB and UVC. The so-called “Long-UVC” light has a wavelength of about 200-220 nm.

The effect of UV light on germs and viruses depends heavily on the air temperature and humidity. The recommended exposure time to UV light is at least 30 minutes is the average recommended exposure to ultraviolet. It may take longer to achieve the same germicidal effect at temperatures below 70F or above 120F and air humidity over sixty percent. In order to increase the germicidal efficacy of UV radiation it is highly advised to start using the technology for drinking water decontamination and disinfection purposes.

4. Ozonation

Ozone is a chemical element that is the most powerful oxidizing agent. The organic shell, of all bacteria and viruses known to biochemists and virologists, is not able to withstand the effects of ozone. Ozone is 300 times more powerful than chlorine, and therefore it is not difficult for it to eliminate the pollutant itself, whether it is in the air or on the surface of any objects.

What is Antiseptic?

Antiseptic is a disinfectant that is used in hygiene to prevent the transmission of pathogenic bodies such as viruses. As a rule, antiseptic substances kill up to 99% of bacteria and viruses.

Antibacterial gels are much more effective than hygienic soaps. Most of these products are based on plain medical grade alcohol, which destroys various bacteria and viruses.

Practical Use of Ozonizers Against COVID-19

Ozonation is a rather unique and also very efficient means of protection during any pandemic and coronavirus in particular. The fight against 2020 pandemic is not about creating a vaccine for the recovery of a sick person, but about establishing a means of effective prevention and destruction of the virus itself in the surrounding space, creating a barrier to the spread of the disease. As far as we know, coronavirus is transmitted by airborne droplets and directly through skin contact. The COVID-19 coronavirus is no exception.

What Does an Ozonizer Offer?

Ozone is a natural form of oxygen with a molecule of not two but three atoms. Under normal conditions, ozone is a poisonous blue gas with a pungent odor. But this does not mean that it should be viewed as hazardous or dangerous. Everyone knows that during a thunderstorm, the air takes on a scent of freshness. This is how the low concentration of ozone smells like. It is formed from oxygen during powerful electrical discharges.

This question is relevant, since many are concerned that, along with the expansion of goods from China, various viruses may be introduced by mail. According to the assurances of the sanitary and epidemiological authorities, these fears are in vain and have no real basis.

Ozonator Destroys the Coronavirus

The destruction of viruses and bacteria is quite simple: an air ozonizing device is placed in a room wh ere there is a suspected pollutant. Air contaminants may vary from dust and pollen to spores of black mold. As ozone is generated the room is treated. Ozone neutralizes viruses and bacteria, converting it into carbon dioxide and water. Thus, the room becomes sterile.

At the same time, the advantage of ozone is that, after treatment, it does not leave any residual substances, in contrast to chlorine and other chemical disinfecting compounds.

General Ozonation Benefits

Ozonation is a precautionary measure that is needed not only during a pandemic, but also in everyday life. Ozone injection will eliminate many problems.

Is there a radical way to minimize the risk of contracting the 2019-nCov coronavirus? Ozonation is known to kill coronavirus and other pathogens with an efficiency of 99%. Given the resistance of the virus to antibiotics, bactericidal agents, ozone treatment can help humanity cope with the pandemic.

Is ozone harmful to humans and animals?

For many countries the question of whether ozonation helps against coronavirus has become relevant. The number of cases is increasing. The government's measures to tighten quarantine indicate the seriousness of the situation. The ability of ozone to destroy viruses, bacteria, fungus, mold is indispensable for disinfection and disinfection of air during an epidemic.

The human sense of smell begins to recognize the presence of ozone in the air at a concentration equal to 10% of the safe amount. Under common conditions, its concentration in the air is 20-40 μg / m3. The gas has a toxic effect when the normal concentration is exceeded times 5 or 10. Adding 10-15 μg / m3 ozone to conditioned air in rooms, on the contrary, contributes to:

  • the well-being of people during the day;

  • good ventilation of the lungs;

  • lack of feeling of stuffiness in a confined space.

Preventative ozonation against coronavirus is carried out after all living organisms (people, animals, birds, indoor plants, an aquarium) have been removed from the premises.

Given the powerful antiviral effect of the substance, air ozonation in case of coronavirus can be used:

  • as a prophylaxis in residential, office, retail premises;

  • for disinfection of hospitals and observatories;

  • when processing train stations, airports, public places.

Ozone in increased concentrations kills microorganisms and viruses. Of course, ozonation of the air in coronavirus requires strict precautions. Ozonation processing should either be entrusted to professionals who:

  • know the peculiarities of the technology, master it perfectly;

  • regularly receive briefings, observe safety rules;

  • equipped with reliable personal protective equipment.

Or the professional grade equipment like high-quality ozone generators should be used.

How does ozone affect viruses?

Even average  ozone concentrations are harmful to viruses. For those who doubt whether ozonation kills coronavirus, here are the facts proven by doctors:

  1. Ozonation causes partial destruction of the shell of the virus, it loses its properties.

  2. Ozone destroys the biochemical bonds between enzymes and virus proteins, resulting in a loss of the ability to create new cells.

  3. Ozone treatment deprives the virus of its ability to attach to the target cell.

Despite the pandemic-panic being the king of the situation in people's minds nowadays, most still follow the head of WHO directions: to use the brain instead of emotions and knowledge instead of rumors. Unfortunately, there are various ways to mislead people, trying to sell absolutely useless products at high prices, labelling them anti-viral and anti-covid. Your own personal success in protection from the coronavirus is solely up to you and the critical thinking you choose to implement in everyday situations.

If you choose to use an ozonator and masks, and sanitizers research well before investing, use common sense above all. When shopping for an ozonizer, think of cost effectiveness: by getting a high-quality air purifier you may actually kill two birds with one stone: disinfect the air in your room and deprive it of all airborne contaminants too.
